How to Style a Basic White Button-Down: 3 Ways
A basic, white button-down shirt is a closet staple if I’ve ever seen one. Personally, I have four different styles of this type of shirt with, as MR likes to point out, only slight variations between them. If you read this post, you know I love my menswear styles. To me, there’s something so feminine about rocking a borrowed-from-the-boys look.
I’ve recently found myself wearing this gauzy white shirt A LOT. I just keep coming up with new ways to style it, and the lightweight, yet still long-sleeved style is perfect for spring! I bought the specific shirt you see in this post from J.Crew probably five years ago, and it was originally supposed to be a swimsuit coverup. If you saw my recent Instagrams from our trip to Miami, you saw that I do actually wear it as a coverup too. Talk about a versatile piece! This one is long sold out, but I found three nearly identical options here, here, and here. You can also shop all outfit details at the bottom of the post!
For the first look, I decided to fully tuck in the shirt to white, high-waist trousers. I unbuttoned the shirt most of the way down, but then added a layered statement necklace to “cover up” some skin. I wore this out to dinner after shooting and it was perfect!
The second look has more of a beachy vibe to it. I love linen wide-leg trousers, and knotting the gauzy shirt on top felt so easy and effortless.
Finally, since you know there’s not one thing in my closet I won’t style with my favorite Agolde jeans, I tucked the shirt in and added a fun bralette underneath for a cool and casual look.
Which look is your favorite? Let me know in the comments!
