The Edit: My Favorite Designer Dupes

If you’re anything like me, you probably have a long, L O N G list of designer items you’ve been coveting. While it would be wonderful to be able to indulge in all of our fashion cravings all the time, this just simply is not the case for most of people. Which, most of the time is actually totally fine, because once you give in and treat yourself to one of those wishlist items, it makes it that much more special!

The ‘fake’ vs. ‘dupe’ debate is one that has recently caught my attention. I read a great blog post from Baller on a Budget (which you can find here), about the difference between fake designer knockoffs, and products that look similar to designer products but don’t include any branding or labeling. The latter has become known as the ‘dupe’.

Essentially the argument is that fake products try to represent themselves as the real thing by using a designer’s logo and branding, while dupes may present a similar design, but do not use another designer’s logo. The dupe phenomenon is how major brands such as Steve Madden can produce a shoe that looks strikingly similar to the popular Gucci Princetown loafer without violating any laws. As someone who has long avoided fake designer products, I was skeptical at first about the argument in favor of dupes. However, it’s undeniable that there are some amazing deals out there. This is not the days of old when finding a fake bag meant exploring the back alleyways and sub-basements of Canal Street and hoping you lived to tell the tale. No, the best dupes out there these days are high quality and often come to you from well-known, reputable brands, or at the very least free two-day shipping with Amazon Prime!

If you’ve followed me for a while, you know my favorite FAVORITE dupe of all time is this bamboo bag which I found on Amazon last summer. I’ve recently explored a few other dupes that have been suggested to me from friends, or ones I’ve stumbled upon during my endless online shopping marathons. I have to say, I’ve been pretty impressed with the ones I’ve found so far and I obviously had to share them with all of you!

I personally own #’s 1, 3, 4, 8, and 10 above and I love them all! I even have 8 and 10 in multiple colors. Ten is modeled after the Furla Candy Bag, which was popular a few years ago. I actually have an authentic Furla Candy Bag, so I’ve had the benefit of direct comparison, and the quality and similarity of this dupe is unreal! I think #’s 5, 9, and 12 are my next purchases because I’ve lusted after those spiked Louboutin’s for years, and who doesn’t love a good sunglass dupe?! 

The Gucci Princetown dupes (#6) were suggested to me by a friend who has them. I’ve seen them in person and the quality is so good!
