Harvest Themed Fall Décor

Now that Halloween is over, I know that many of you have already gone straight into the Christmas spirit. I, too, am guilty of listening to Michael Bublé’s Christmas album on repeat, and my tree may or may not already be put together. That said, Thanksgiving is my absolute favorite day of the year, and I refuse to take down my fall décor until after turkey day is over.

Truth is, I usually decorate for fall in early October, but this year Atlanta was so hot until about a week ago, and I just couldn’t get in to the vibe. Recently, though, the weather has finally taken a turn, and we have had a couple weeks of glorious, crisp fall weather! I just couldn’t wait to bust out my boxes (upon boxes) of faux pumpkins and get the house harvest-ready.

My décor is similar to my theme from last year, which you can see HERE, I just made it…MORE! You guys know by now that I love neutrals in every aspect of life, so I tend to stick to natural elements and muted tones (read: white) even in my holiday décor. Just because it’s festive doesn’t mean it has to be a departure from your personal style!

TABLESCAPE

Oh how I love a good tablescape! When it comes to my fall tablescape, I always reach for my Hotskwash velvet pumpkins as the focal point. They’re so luxe and gorgeous, the almost don’t need any accompaniments!

This year, I beefed up the fall florals for a super lush look, and added some gold elements for a little touch of glam.

These golden corn pieces are from Pottery Barn circa 2014. I have used them for years and years! My “fall décor” storage boxes multiply by the year, but I always reuse everything and find new ways to style them year after year.

I actually take that approach with any holiday décor, which can easily get expensive if you try to buy it all at once. I’ve been building up my collection of faux pumpkins, garlands, Christmas ornaments, etc., since I graduated college and started to decorate my first apartment. It makes me happy to use some of those early items each year, and add a few fun new baubles whenever I find something inspiring! Remember, you don’t have to buy everything all at once! Just start small and make sure it reflects your personal style, and soon you’ll have built up a massive collection. Come to think of it, this approach works for clothes too haha.

LIVING ROOM AND STAIRCASE

I mentioned earlier that I have boxes and boxes of faux pumpkins. Glass, plastic, white, off-white, cream…it’s wild. The majority of my faux pumpkins are from Michael’s and Target, because they usually have similar ones that compliment my previous season’s haul, and their prices are unbeatable for the quality. I do have a few glass pumpkins from Pottery Barn, which are a bit spendy but which I’ve slowly accumulated ever since they came out several years ago.

Faux pumpkins are so easy to decorate with, just pile them anywhere and you’ve got an instant autumnal moment. I always pair my fakes with a few real ones, my favorites are the giant white polar bear or muted heirloom varieties. I find that mixing in some natural elements actually makes my fake ones look more real!

In Atlanta, my favorite places to shop for real pumpkins are Burt’s Pumpkin Farm or Pike Nurseries. Burt’s has an amazing selection at extremely reasonable prices, but the trade-in is that you have to commute about an hour outside of Atlanta to get them. Pike also has a great selection, albeit painfully higher prices, but you can’t beat the convenience.

If you’ve seen my previous holiday decorations, you know I always try to incorporate some natural elements, like dried moss, lavender, or eucalyptus into my vignettes. One of my favorites was the moss table runner I created for my Easter tablescape this year! These items add a fresh, earthy vibe to the décor, which I love!

I used Trader Joe’s fresh eucalyptus in the photos you see here, which dries out so nicely over the month or two I leave it out and it smells so fresh and heavenly. I also added some cotton stems and spanish moss for an ode to my southern roots.
